Our Services
Coordinated Care for Children and Families
A child should not have to tell their story over and over. At the Memphis CAC, specialized professionals work as one team so investigation, healing, and support happen in concert. Children get the care they need. Families get a steady hand to guide them through.
What the Memphis CAC provides
Each service the Memphis CAC offers is part of a single, coordinated response to child abuse. Specialists work side by side so every child and family receives the right support at the right moment. The result is a continuum of care that protects children, strengthens families, and reaches the wider community.
Child Forensic Interviews
A forensic interviewer trained to talk with children at their developmental level conducts a single, neutral conversation in a calm, child-friendly setting. The interview is recorded so investigators, prosecutors, and child protective services can review it without asking the child to repeat their account.
Medical Exams
Specially trained nurses from our partner agency, the Shelby County Crime Victims & Rape Crisis Center, perform medical exams when needed. Most exams are conducted at their clinic at the CAC in our child-friendly setting.
Family Advocacy
Family advocates support families from the start. Advocates explain what is happening and help parents and caregivers navigate the investigation.
Therapy
Master-level therapists trained in evidence-based trauma treatment work with children and non-offending caregivers. Sessions help children process what happened, build coping skills, and rebuild a sense of safety. Services are available at no cost to families.
Case Coordination
Investigators, prosecutors, child protective services staff, medical providers, therapists, and family advocates meet regularly to align on each case. Information is shared allowing the team to coordinate the next steps.
Prevention
The Memphis CAC trains adults across Shelby County to recognize, prevent, and respond to child sexual abuse. Programs reach parents, educators, faith leaders, youth-serving professionals, and individuals through interactive classes and policy workshops.
